The Salt Route is a sailing regatta that takes place every year during Easter week and follows the old salt route between Barcelona and Ibiza. This 350 mile crossing presents a challenge for the young crew aboard our sail training ship Galaxie.
We start our training programme for the crew between January and March. The Balearic Department of Social Services proposes young candidates who usually come to us from institutions or care homes, as well as being at risk of social exclusion.
Every weekend a group of 8 young people start sailing and discover the benefits it brings. A total of around 100 young people take part in this selection process.
After evaluating which participants have developed their social skills, their ability to work in a team and that they are capable of competing, the sailors are chosen by the Capitain of Galaxie and Social Services.
